SIDHARTH

The mystical quest in Sidharth's work is universal. He envisions a utopian reality where humans are one with the elements of nature. His intentionally stylized characters are expressive and lyrically painted in pigments that retain the luster and intensity of their mineral colors. The artist is involved in mixing his colors for his imagery, to ensure their viability as universal emblems. He gives visual embodiment to the intensely spiritual implications of Life.

His use of matter as pigment colors revives the ancient traditions of painting techniques of India. The artist becomes an alchemist in search of brilliant colors from the womb of the earth. Sidarth also plays with scale and perspective to restore dignity to all creatures. He nurtures the connectivity and continuity of life; the earth and all creatures are in a sacred Lila.

Born in 1956 in Punjab, India, Sidharth started painting sign boards while still at school but later progressed to learning the Thangka painting technique from Tibetan monks at Dharamshala. Since 1976, he has held eighteen solo shows and has participated in eighty group shows in India, UK, Sweden and USA. He has received many awards for his works, and a scholarship from the British Council. His works can be found in the collection of Indian Museums; the British Council in Delhi; the Punjab Lalit Kala Academy; the British, Mexican and Swedish ambassadors; the Dusseldorf Museum; Heda, Sweden; and several industrial groups within and outside India. He is the author of a book “Neti Neti” and has made fifteen documentary films on Indian temples, art and architecture.
